About Splash Pools

Splash pools have been in existence for a considerable period of time, in various shapes and sizes in childrens play areas and leisure parks.

Typically consisting of a large water feature, they deliver water exactly like a domestic shower. The water is then channelled via a drainage system from the splash zone into a balance tank.

Chlorination occurs by way of a specialist peice of plant equipment, collected, and then recycled through the water feature. What the public, and owners and operators of the facility usually fail to realise is that if they are not designed, maintained and operated correctly, they pose a serious health risk - Legionella.

All the necessary ingredients are apparent within a splash pool zone to encourage the spread of infectious disease, namely heat, water and nutrients. The splash pool area should have a seperate plant room that incorporates two balance tanks. Used or polluted water is collected in the balance tanks and filtered, cleaned and chlorinated via specialist equipment, and then recirculated into the water features of the splash zone.
